  • Alpena Regional Medical Center: Alpena’s largest employer, Alpena Regional Medical Center (ARMC), is northeastern Michigan’s largest provider of specialty services. Founded in 1940, the Alpena Regional Medical Center is federally-regulated as the rural Regional Reference Center for all of Northeastern Michigan. The hospital employs over 1,000 physicians and employees (and includes over 300 more volunteers), shares a partnership with the University of Michigan Health System, and has a variety of health care services and technologies including a women’s health unit and diagnostic imaging services. Alpena Regional Medical Center extends its services beyond the main hospital site and includes satellite locations that address health care needs through remote clinics, home care, and special services for regional physician offices. 1. Education

  • Iosco Regional Educational Service Agency (IOSCO) Special Education: The IOSCO, based out of Oscoda County, consists of five school districts. Special education services provide instruction that gives emphasis to social, emotional and intellectual skills, personal health habits and self-care, environmental awareness, vocational skills, job training, communication, language arts, functional math and reading, independent living skills, human development, recreation, community-based instruction, physical fitness, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and more. Support services include positive behavioral support, psychological evaluations, professional development, teacher consultations, and vocational assessment support. 2. Care

  • VitalCare: VitalCare is a nonprofit nursing service organization serving residents of Northern Michigan. Services include visiting nurses, home health aids, medical social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, ventilator management, home oxygen delivery, wellness programs, adult day centers, medical equipment loans, and more. VitalCare is affiliated with McLaren Northern Michigan.

3. Employment

  • North Eastern Michigan Rehabilitation and Opportunity Center, Inc. (NEMROC) is a private, nonprofit corporation that provides personal, vocational, and social development opportunities for people with disabilities. Located in Alpena, Michigan, NEMROC employs individuals with a range of physical, mental, social, and emotional disabilities in order to promote community involvement. NEMROC mainly produces wood-based products.

4. Housing

  • West Accessible Design Services, LLC: Located in Alpena, West Accessible Design Services designs universally accessible and modified houses for individuals with mobility limitations and disabilities. Specific services include home accessibility checklist building, accessible design options, construction drawings, project cost analyses, construction management, home monitor and communications, and home maintenance.

  • Airway Oxygen Inc. Home Medical Equipment sells adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and home medical equipment to people with disabilities, injuries, and lifestyle needs. Some products include hospital beds, lift chairs, walking aids, breathing aids, and more. They have a location in Alpena, Michigan.
