St. Clair Shores, Michigan Cerebral Palsy (CP) Resources and SupportBright Side Dental, located in St. Clair Shores, offers specialized dentistry services to patients with special needs. Bright Side Dental prioritizes trust, friendship, sensitivity, and relationship-building in order to provide welcoming, thorough dental services to patients ages 12 and up with Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism, or other physical and developmental conditions. Dental specialists from Bright Side Dental take into consideration the factors affecting dental hygiene associated with certain disabling conditions.   • Lake Shore Public Schools Special Education provides special education services to all St. Claire Shores special needs students in the district. Lake Shore Public Schools provides specialized classrooms, resource rooms, teacher consultation, support services, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, school social work, and support programming by age group.
  • South Lake School District is another St. Clair Shores, Michigan school district providing special education services to students. The South Lake School District Special Services Department facilitates Child Find, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), the Early Child Special Education Program, pre-school speech and language services, Macomb Intermediate School District center programs, information and referral services, and more.

The Henry Ford Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD)’s Medical Home program provides primary care for children with special health care needs. Located in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, the CADD Medical Home aims to provide continued, intensive care for patients with medically complex health care needs. The Medical Home operates on the principles of providing family-centered, accessible, coordinated, compassionate, continuous, and comprehensive care for pediatric and adolescent patients and their families.

Homes of Opportunity’s Vocational Opportunity Center (V.O.C.) functions as a nonprofit organization in partnership with Community Living Services, Inc. and local school districts to deliver person-centered planning supports and quality vocational services.

4. Housing Resources
  • Homes of Opportunity, located in St. Claire Shores, Michigan, provides supports, service coordination, community employment services, community living services, and social opportunities to developmentally disabled adults. Homes of Opportunity partners with the Macomb-Oakland Regional Center (MORC) and Community Living Services to provide their residential services.

  • The City of St. Clair Shores, Michigan Transportation Services provides transportation for all residents with special needs or disabilities. Organized by the Senior Activities Center, St. Clair Shores’ transportation services operate four wheelchair-equipped buses and provide curbside transit services Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The St. Clair Shores SMART Bus Service provides curbside, advanced reservation transit services to all residents with disabilities in accordance with ADA standards.

1. Interdisciplinary Therapy Programs
  • The Sensory Systems Clinic is a St. Clair Shores, Michigan therapy center specifically designed to treat children with sensory processing disorders (also known as sensory integration disorders).   • The DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) Rehab facility at Pointe Fitness and Training Center in Harper Woods (a city neighboring St. Clair Shores) provides patients with physical therapy, sports medicine, and orthopedic therapy.
2. Physical Therapy
  • Beaumont Rehabilitation Center St. Clair Shores provides physical therapy services to adult and pediatric patients. Conditions treated at the St. Clair Shores clinic include spinal conditions, musculoskeletal dysfunctions, conditions affecting the extremities, neurological conditions, Torticollis, gross motor deficits, and others.   • The St. Clair Shores Parks & Recreation Special Needs Playground Program is a summer program that provides special needs children with opportunities to participate in sports, arts and crafts, games, educational events, field trips, and other recreational activities. Specific outings include trips to the Detroit Zoo, the Cranbrook Institute of Science, the city pool, horseback riding facilities, and more.
4. Occupational Therapy

6. Behavioral Therapy and Emotional Counseling

Henry Ford Medical Center—East Jefferson, located in St. Clair Shores, oversees the Henry Ford Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) program. The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program offered through Henry Ford CADD aims to diagnose and improve behavioral and emotional issues in patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or developmental disabilities.
