Our birth trauma team at Michigan Cerebral Palsy Attorneys is fortunate to include Andrea Shea, our ever-valuable in-house Obstetrical Nurse Consultant. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Oakland University, several obstetrical and medical certifications, and years in the field of obstetrical care, Andrea brings unparalleled experience and knowledge to our team and clients. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in nursing and becoming licensed as a Registered Nurse in obstetrics, Andrea went on to maintain her certification in Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM). Additionally, Andrea served as an Obstetrical Clinical Instructor at Oakland University, providing student evaluation and clinical training for obstetric rotation.
Andrea’s professional career in obstetrical nursing began in the labor and delivery unit of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital immediately after her graduation from Oakland University. Pursuing her obstetrical specialty with a sense of urgency speaks to Andrea’s passion and dedication to the field of obstetrical care, maternal-fetal medicine, and patient advocacy. At St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Andrea’s myriad skills developed and she flourished as a leader in her field—from managing the complete care of maternal and fetal patients, providing ongoing care, assessing patient health, and providing all necessary emergency interventions, Andrea developed skills including care coordination, problem solving, critical thinking, attention to clinical detail, patient care, emergency obstetrical intervention, and much more. Andrea’s direct experience with birth trauma situations such as nuchal cords, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), premature birth, and other labor and delivery complications allows her to provide the utmost standard of care for our clients. Her years of working in close proximity to skilled nurses and physicians paired with countless hours of hands-on work in labor and delivery situations leaves Andrea Shea with skills and experience unmatched by another birth injury law firm.
Since the inception of her career in obstetrical nursing, Andrea has shared the core values and goals of our birth injury law firm—to advocate for the rights of vulnerable individuals.
