A Special Visit from the Easter Bunny
On Sunday, March 29th, Ann Arbor’s Briarwood Mall is sponsoring a morning visit from the “Caring Bunny,” an Easter Bunny who specifically visits with children with special needs and sensory processing disorders. This visit from the Caring Bunny will offer a welcoming, sensory-friendly environment for the special needs children who, due to environmental overstimulation, are often unable to visit with other Easter Bunnies. Visits are reserved for a limited number of special needs visitors and will include a photo session with the Caring Bunny.
Children with cerebral palsy or other developmental disabilities may have sensory processing disorders, which are characterized by difficulties adjusting to or processing stimulation from seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and/or smelling. Children with sensory processing disorders may be overly sensitive (hypersensitive) or under stimulated by the senses (hyposensitive). Hypersensitive children often react negatively when touched, dressed, exposed to sounds, or in specific lighting. Hyposensitive children, who are generally restless or edgy, often look for stimulation in their environments.
