Celebrating Ronald McDonald House Charities’ 40th Anniversary

Rebecca Walsh, decorated attorney and partner at Michigan Cerebral Palsy Attorneys, has been on the RHMC Board of Directors since 2009. This year, Walsh invited her colleagues to celebrate Ronald McDonald House Charities’ 40th Anniversary by donning red and white striped socks #forRMHC.

What are Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC)?

Founded in 1974, the Ronald McDonald House Charities are committed to uniting families as their children undergo treatment for a variety of medical needs. With a network of 347 local chapters, RMHC addresses the financial needs of families with sick children by providing housing close to hospitals, supporting families living in new cities, and arranging basic medical care for vulnerable families. RMHC operates 347 Ronald McDonald Houses, 195 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, 50 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, and in sixty countries. Additionally, RMHC provides grants to non-profit organizations that cater to children’s needs, awards scholarships, and organizes country-specific programs.

Why the Socks?

The striped socks for the #forRMHC social media movement are inspired by one of Ronald McDonald House Charities’ most important principles—courage. In order to celebrate “the courage and hope of RMHC families,” participants in the 40th anniversary awareness initiative and celebratory event shared their videos, photos, stories, and posts to various social media platforms. As posts come in with the #forRMHC, #ShowYourStripes, and #Sockie hashtags, the Ronald McDonald House community celebrates the “compassion, hope and strength [of its] supporters.” To purchase socks for awareness events, visit this webpage. All proceeds go to RMHC initiatives.
