Services include a student support team, Early On Michigan programming, Early Intervention programs, collaborative consultation, evaluations, special education classroom programs, speech and language therapy, social work services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, teacher consultation services, community placement, transition plans, functional behavioral assessments, behavioral intervention planning, and more.
  • Northville Public Schools’ Special Education Programs provide a range of educational and support services for all students with special education needs. Services include speech and language services, social work, autism spectrum disorder consultation, assistive technology coordination, transitional work study services, Child Find, Early Childhood Intervention Programming, resource rooms, grade-specific special education classrooms, and the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee. BrightStar Care of Novi provides a range of care and support services for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Below are some of the care services and programs available through BrightStar Care of Novi:

  • Companion Care services include sitter or nanny services, in-home support, housekeeping and home chores, meal planning, respite for family or caregivers, errand help, transportation, travel companionship, and new mother support.
  • Skilled Home Care services include case management, nursing, exercise management, home infusion therapy, in-home blood draws, injections, and related procedures, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, tube/drain/bag maintenance, vital sign surveillance, wound care, and more.
  • Transportation Services provides transportation planning and scheduling, travel companionship, and transportation to appointments, errand destination, planned trips, and more.
  • Personal Care services include ambulation, bath visits, dressing, grooming, feeding, safety home evaluation, pre- and post-operative assistance, hygiene, toileting, and more.

New Horizons Rehabilitation Services, Inc. is a nonprofit agency dedicated to improving equality, opportunity, and well-being in the lives of disabled people. New Horizons Rehabilitation Services extends employment programs and services to individuals ages 16 and older with disabilities including physical challenges, mental disabilities, mental illnesses, learning disabilities, industrial injuries, visual impairments, deafness or hearing impairments, and/or brain damage. Employment services and programs include vocational training, return to work, school to work, computer classes, employment services, supported employment, skills assessments, the Career Focused Employment Program, Deaf, Hard of Hearing & Blind Services, and work evaluations. New Horizons Rehabilitation Services has locations in Novi, Auburn Hills, Clinton Township, Davisburg, and Madison Heights.

New Horizons Rehabilitation Services, Inc. facilitates Community Integration Services, a program dedicated to helping disabled participants build social skills, increase independence, and integrate into their communities.   • The RIM Novi Center’s Assistive Technology services include augmentative and alternative communication devices, environmental controls, adaptive equipment, computer access, training, consultation, and more.

7. Accessible Playgrounds
  • The Franklin Road Christian School, located at 40800 West 13 Mile Road in Novi, Michigan, includes low platforms so children with wheelchairs or other mobility aids can move freely throughout the playground equipment.
  • The Woodlands of the North Playground, located at 20969 Woodland Glen Dr. in Northville, Michigan, features transfer stations for children with wheelchairs and other mobility equipment.

  • The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Novi Rehabilitation Center provides a range of therapies and rehabilitation specialties for pediatric patients. Pediatric rehabilitation services include occupational therapy, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical therapy, the Rehabilitation Technological Program, and speech and language therapy.
  • The RIM Novi Center: The Detroit Medical Center Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (DMC RIM) has a large network of rehabilitation and therapy centers located throughout Michigan. The RIM Novi Center, one of the most comprehensive DMC RIM facilities, offers rehabilitation services and programs including physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician services, pool therapy (aquatic therapy), sports medicine, Lymphedema therapy, hand therapy, speech and language pathology, orthopedic therapy, neuropsychology and psychology, vocational counseling, driver evaluation and training, women’s rehabilitation, spinal cord injury rehab, stroke rehab, brain injury rehab, social work and case management, therapeutic recreation, vestibular rehabilitation, and more. Below we’ll explain some of these programs and services in greater detail:
    • Pediatric Rehabilitation at RIM Novi Center treats infants, children, and adolescents with impairments or conditions resulting from an injury, illness, or developmental disability. The program focuses on mobility, cognition, memory, social skills, communication, and activities of daily living. Specialists provide personalized therapy services for conditions including, but not limited to, cerebral palsy (CP), brachial plexus injuries, torticollis, neuromuscular disorders, orthopedic injuries, gait disorders, spinal cord injuries, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, dysphagia (feeding issues), and sensory processing disorders. Inpatient rehab services include physical therapy and rehabilitation, physical medicine, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, gait training, therapeutic recreation, social work, rehabilitation nursing, music and art therapy, child life services, and education. Pediatric Rehabilitation services are only available at the Novi, Clinton Township, and Detroit DMC RIM locations.
    • Spasticity Management treatments and services at RIM Novi Center include oral medication, injection therapy, intrathecal Baclofen therapy, neurological or orthopedic surgery, and rehabilitation therapy. Spasticity Management is only available at the Novi and Detroit DMC RIM locations.
    • Brain Injury Rehabilitation services at RIM Novi Center include rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, respiratory therapy, therapeutic recreation, nutrition, neuropsychology, social work, aquatic therapy, recreational activities, support groups, dysphagia management, home evaluations, orthotics, post-rehabilitation fitness, stroke education classes, and wheelchair services and seating. Brain Injury Rehabilitation services are only available at the DMC RIM locations in Novi, Detroit, and Sterling Heights, Michigan.

  • Henry Ford Medical Center—Novi, located in Northville, provides comprehensive and individualized therapy programs for patients. 2. Recreational Therapy
Northville and Novi MI Recreational Therapy
  • The Oakland County Department of Parks and Recreation Adaptive Recreation Program facilitates the following events in Novi, Michigan:
    • The Spring Fling Adaptive Recreation Event takes place each year at the Novi Parks and Recreation building in Novi, Michigan. The event is reserved for developmentally disabled participants over the age of 18 and features dinner, music and dancing.
    • The Hawaiian Luau Adaptive Recreation Event takes place in Novi each July and involves dancing, music, and dinner. The event is reserved for developmentally disabled individuals ages 18 and up.
    • The Hoedown Adaptive Recreation Event takes place in Novi each year and includes dinner, music, and dancing. It is reserved for developmentally disabled adults.

    • O.U.R. Camp is a summer day camp specifically designed for young children with developmental disabilities. Located in Northville, Michigan, O.U.R. Camp features activities including music, sports, arts, crafts, games, and play.
3. Stem Cell Therapy

The J.P. McCarthy Cord Stem Cell Bank collects umbilical cord blood from St. John Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Michigan. All collections are used to advance research and treatment options for conditions and illnesses including cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, birth defects, and others.

4. Complementary and Alternative Therapies

The Henry Ford Center for Integrative Medicine is located at the Henry Ford Medical Center Novi in Northville, Michigan. Services available at the Center for Integrative Medicine include acupuncture therapy, chiropractic care, nutritional therapy, and massage therapy (including Swedish/relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, Myofascial release therapy, sports massage, and reflexology).   • The RIM Novi Center’s Neuropsychology services work to assess and treat patient neuropsychological issues, help patients adjust to disability, and support patients during recovery processes. Psychological assessment services include the following:
    • Rehabilitation psychology, which includes emotional and personality testing, adjustment to illness or injury, and coping strategy development.
    • Neuropsychological assessment, which includes testing certain aspects of cognition affected by neurological injury or a neurological disorder. Areas of cognition treated include attention, language, visual-spatial functioning, memory, problem solving, emotional or personality changes, and more.
    • Psychotherapy, which includes individual, group, family, or couple treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, role changes, and more.
  • St. John Providence—Providence Park Hospital, Novi Campus provides outpatient Behavioral Medicine Services for patients with mental health issues. St. John Providence Behavioral Medicine Services are also available in Southfield, Michigan.
  • Henry Ford Medical Center—Columbus (Novi, Michigan) offers outpatient behavioral health services. Behavioral health professionals provide comprehensive care to patients with psychiatric, psychological, neuropsychological, and other mental health conditions. Care services include therapy, treatment, personalized treatment planning, evaluation, medication management, and more. Some specialty areas include ADD/ADHD, anger management, anxiety, autism, chronic pain management, depression, learning disabilities, mood disorders, neuropsychology, pediatric behavioral health services, and more.
